PIKE Technologies offers a selection of most popular cuvettes, vials and cell holders used in the field of UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The cuvettes are manufactured using a heat fusing method which ensures that they are fused into a single homogeneous unit. Cuvettes are carefully annealed to remove any residual strain for maximum cell integrity and physical strength. The cells can be used with most solvents and acidic solutions. Hydrofluoric acid (HF) and strong bases (pH >9) will negatively affect the cell surfaces.

Standard Rectangular Cuvettes – Type 1

Type 1, macro cuvettes fit all spectrometer 1cm cell holders.  The exterior height is 45 mm, with two clear windows and an open top. The walls of the cell and the bottom are smooth on the inside. On the outside, the light path windows are clear and the adjacent windows and the bottom are frosted or grey. The windows are 1.25 mm thick and each cell is supplied with a PTFE cover. Spacers need to be used for 1, 2, and 5mm pathlength cuvettes (see holders/spacers tab)

Standard Rectangular Cuvettes with Stoppers – Type 21

Type 21 cuvettes are the same as Type 1 cuvettes above, except instead of having an open rectangular hole at the top, a block is fused to the top of the cuvette with a ground hole to receive a PTFE stopper. This provides a more suitable seal for volatile liquids. Cuvettes with a path length greater than 20 mm are supplied with two stoppers and the height of the cuvette body is 48 mm with an overall height including the stopper of approximately 53mm. Spacers need to be used for 1, 2, and 5 mm pathlength cuvettes (see holders/spacers tab)

Semi-Micro Cuvettes – Type 9 and 9B

The Semi-Micro cuvettes offer reduced sample volume, which is typically 40% of an equivalent path length standard cuvette. Semi-Micro cuvettes are available with either clear walls parallel to the light beam or non-transmitting self-masking black walls which improve sensitivity by eliminating stray light from measurements. The interior chamber width of Semi-Micro cuvettes is reduced to 4 mm, therefore it is essential to determine that the light beam from the instrument passes centrally through the chamber. This is especially important for long path length cuvettes. Both the Type 9 and Type 9B are supplied with a PTFE cover.

Semi-Micro Cuvettes with Stoppers – Type 29 and 29B

Type 29 cuvettes are similar in design to Type 9 Semi-Micro cuvettes above, with the exception that these cuvettes are supplied with a PTFE stopper, or stoppers (for paths longer than 40mm) to fit in a ground fitting to reduce evaporation of volatile samples. The Type 29 and Type 29B cuvette have an external height of 48 mm plus stopper.

Micro Cuvettes – Type 18 and 18B

Type 18 cuvettes feature 2 mm internal chamber width and can be used for very small sample volumes (about 20% of Type 1 cell with the same path length.) Micro cuvettes are available with either clear walls or black walls which are opaque and improve sensitivity. The cuvettes have an exterior height of 45 mm. Each cuvette has an open top and is supplied with a PTFE cover.

Micro Cuvettes with Stoppers – Type 28 and 28B

 

Type 29 cuvettes are similar in design to Type 18 Micro cuvettes above, with the exception that these cuvettes are supplied with a PTFE stopper, or stoppers (for paths longer than 40 mm) to fit in a ground fitting to reduce evaporation of volatile samples. The Type 29 and Type 29B cuvettes have an external height of 48 mm plus stopper.

Cylindrical Cells – Type 32 and 34

Type 32 and 34 cells range from path lengths of 10 mm to 100 mm with an internal diameter of 19 mm. PTFE stoppers are supplied with each cell. An appropriate holder is required for cylindrical cells – please see holders/spacers tab for holder selection.
